Excavation & Grading for Properties Across Central Virginia

Solid Driveways, Level Yards & Better Drainage in Hanover County, VA

Site Work Built for Long Gravel Drives & Rolling Terrain

Across Hanover County, long private driveways, rolling terrain and wooded lots are common, and so are washed-out gravel, soggy yards and water pooling near the house. Six Arrows LLC reshapes and grades the land, installs culverts and ditches, and lays compacted stone so your property drains cleanly and stays usable. This work often follows land clearing, and owner Aaron Schuhle manages each project from the first walk-through to the final pass.

Grading & Site Work for Every Part of Your Property

Driveway Grading & Installation

New gravel driveways are graded to slope water away from your home, then built with layers of compacted stone for a firm, even surface. Existing driveways can be reshaped to improve runoff, topped with fresh stone to fill low spots and leveled where sections have settled. The result is a drive that sheds water and resists rutting.

Yard Grading & Expansion

High spots are cut, low areas filled and the surface compacted to create flat, usable ground for a shed, garden, patio or play area. Grading also directs water away from your foundation, and the work is planned around mature trees and landscaping you want to keep.

Drainage Solutions

Culverts are installed under driveways and access roads so water flows through instead of washing out the surface. Ditches are dug or reshaped to carry stormwater to safe drainage points, and grading and stone placement help stop soil from washing away.

Stone Delivery & Installation

Angular crushed stone is delivered and compacted for driveways and access roads, and decorative stone can be spread for paths and borders. Because stone is handled as part of your grading project, there's no need to coordinate a separate supplier.

Signs Your Property Needs Drainage Work

When Water & Uneven Ground Start Causing Problems

  • Your gravel driveway puddles, ruts or has stone thinning out in the middle
  • Water pools near your foundation, garage or outbuildings after rain
  • Gullies are forming or soil is washing away during storms
  • Slopes are too steep for a shed, garden or play area
  • Runoff is cutting across or washing out your driveway

Common Excavation & Grading Questions

What Property Owners Ask Before Starting

  • What type of stone is best for a gravel driveway?

Angular crushed stone works best because the edges lock together when compacted, creating a stable surface that resists shifting under vehicles.

  • How does a culvert protect a gravel driveway?

A culvert is a pipe under the driveway that lets water pass through instead of flowing over the top and washing out the stone.

  • When should an existing gravel driveway be regraded?

Regrading makes sense when you see frequent puddles, ruts, low spots or stone that has scattered to the edges.

  • Can yard grading fix water pooling near my foundation?

In many cases, yes. Yard grading reshapes the ground so water flows away from the house, and it can be paired with ditch work when runoff needs somewhere to go.
